Patients need care, and clinicians want to serve them. However, post-Dobbs, clinicians need immediate legal guidance before they can make decisions about provision of care. With state and local laws changing rapidly, ongoing legal guidance will be essential.

Partnering with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) is mobilizing attorneys and law students across the country to provide legal guidance to front-line reproductive health care providers. Reproductive health clinicians are forced to make decisions every day with a legal landscape in flux and individual patients in search of essential health care. They need clear, up-to-date legal guidance to understand the shifting landscape and provide evidence-based essential health care to their patients in light of the Dobbs decision and multiplying state-level restrictions on abortion care.

We are seeking lawyers and law students in every state in the country to monitor and report into a national database tracking (1) changes to state and local case law, legislation, and regulations; and (2) information about how restrictions around terminations of pregnancies are being enforced in different jurisdictions.

This database will be used to produce webinars, memos, and other resources for clinicians to help them understand and mitigate legal risks to themselves and their patients. Our goal will be to offer as much information and up-to-date guidance to providers as we can, while recognizing the unavoidable uncertainty that results from a constantly shifting legal landscape.

We have also launched a bi-weekly newsletter titled the “Reproductive Health Digest,” which offers subscribers updates on reproductive health laws across the country using the information collected in our database.
